About
For 10 years I've been involved with the creative and technical aspect of building online identities for small businesses, large corporations and non-profits. I've increased clients' brand exposure by turning their business needs into online realities through a mashup of web/social media strategies.
Work
My focus is web design and front-end development, with a strong background in writing, editing and photography. When creating websites, I strive to balance aesthetic appeal with standard compliant coding. I'm a collaborator with strong creative, technical and project management skills.
Skills
My primary tools are Photoshop, XHTML/CSS and PHP. I'm well versed in video editing, social media + marketing strategies and CMS/eCRM systems such as Wordpress, Drupal, Vignette and Convio and am comfortable working in highly programmed environments. See linkedin profile.

Hugh Garner Green Roof
Hugh Garner Housing Co-operative, in partnership with the Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto Charitable Fund (CHFT), is working towards replacing its conventional roof with a green roof. Once finished, it will be the largest and most innovative project of its kind in Ontario.

Outpost Magazine
Outpost is a travel magazine, based in Toronto, published by-monthly across North America since 1996. Its online version, outpostmagazine.com is intended as both an introduction to the magazine and extension of it, providing resource information on destinations, travel health and featured stories.
As Online Manager, was solely responsible for developing the new Outpost website using Wordpress. Managed the migration of data and developed a mobile version. Initiated social media programs consisting of Twitter and Facebook. As Associate Editor, pitched story ideas and sent on international assignments. See linkedin profile.

Broken Atlas
Broken Atlas is the virtual woodshed of Christopher Frey, a Toronto-based writer, editor and filmmaker and the recipient of two Gold Medals at the National Magazine Awards. His website covers culture, economics and technology in a globalizing world.
Collaborated with the client on the design and then developed the site from an existing Wordpress template. Made PHP and CSS changes to the template and installed and tweeked Wordpress plugins based on business and artistic requirements.

Canadian Cancer Society
Fighting cancer since 1938, the Canadian Cancer Society is a national, community-based organization of volunteers, whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer. Its website, cancer.ca and its programs is the number one resource for those suffering with cancer.
Employed for 8 years, I had a wide variety of roles, from designer to manager to technical specialist, I led or participated in social media and marketing strategies, change management, training, Google Analytics installation and website development in Vignette, Sitecore, Drupal and Convio. Nexonia
Nexonia, founded in 2002, is a privately held company that offers web-based Expense Report, Timesheet and Customer Service solutions that come in 161 currencies and are offered in English, French and Spanish. The solutions are based on open standards and the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) platform.
Hired as designer for Nexonia for two renditions of their site. Developed website mockups in Photoshop and passed on design to programmer. Wrote and edited help web pages for the site. Designed the company brand identity and logo and managed the print design of the company's business cards using Illustrator.

Toth Creative - Prestprop Rentals
Toth Creative provides a variety of creative services associated with advertising, including writing, print design, Flash animation, web development and corporate identities. Nick Toth has over 20 years experience in a variety of media, working with small clients up to international brands.
Hired to fill in and collaborate with the agency's roster of clients. Made design and coding changes to Prestprop rentals network of websites. Frequently work with agency on a freelance basis to take on the overfill of client requests that can range from troubleshooting, graphic design or website enhancement changes.

Cadence Capital Management
Cadence Capital Management provides investment management services to institutional investors as well as to individuals through managed account programs. They were voted "Best Place to Work" by the Boston Business Journal in 2009.
Referred by a previous client, I was hired remotely in 2006 by the Boston company to redesign their old website and transfer the content into the open source Mambo CMS system. Designed and created PhotoShop templates and mockups, installed Mambo, migrated data and trained staff in the system using a shared online training environment.

The Sweeney Agency
The Sweeney Agency has over a decade of experience helping organizations find speakers for their conferences, meetings and events. Their speaker list inludes Anderson Cooper, Marcus Buckingham, Colin Mochrie, David Suzuki and many more.
Consulted to add functionality to a custom built content management system. Learned the system architecture and implement new code to enhance the website. This included PHP programming, CSS and HTML changes, graphic work and MySQL database changes. Upon completion was asked to redesign the site based on business needs.

Metro Canada Logistics
Metro Canada Logistics is one of the leading third-party providers of warehousing, transportation and customized supply chain solutions in Canada. They manage over 8 million square feet of premium warehouse space across Canada including Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.
Referred by a previous client, I was hired to redesign clients website in both English and French. Collaborated with their team, helped generate a list of website requirements, created Photoshop mockups, hand coded HTML and CSS to W3C compliance and SEO best practices, migrated content, and trained staff in site maintenance.

R&D Funding Management
R&D Funding Management consists of a team of scientists and accounting professionals that specialize in the Scientific Research and Experimental Development tax incentive program offered by the CRA. The goal of the program is to encourage businesses to conduct R&D leading to new technologically advanced products.
Referred by a previous client, I was hired to redesign and streamline content based on usability trends. Partnered with their team and created a document of requirements built on a strategic combination of their needs and website best practices. Built templates and implemented hand coded HTML and CSS changes.

Mazda MPV 2001
OnX Enterprise Solutions is a leading IT Solutions Provider with over 25 years of experience. They offer a wide variety of services including web design and development, networking, security, data managment and software and enterprise solutions.
Hired by Onx.com to work as part of a 4 person team on the Mazda MPV 2001 website. My primary responsibility was troubleshooting code, creating dynamic rollovers using Adobe Fireworks and Dreamweaver and assisting team in Photoshop mockups. This was a 3 month contract position and the site launched on schedule.
